Beady Eye album from 2069

LONDON - Some parts from Q Magazine (June edition) published tomorrow.

Dave Sitek, a sun-dodging LA studio nutjob, informed them, "you're stuck in 1969, I'm from 3069 - let's meet in 2069".

One of Liam's songs, Soul Love, was remodelled beaneath a giant screen showing "2001: A Space Odyssey". Sitek says he didn't want to change its acoustic flavour, "But I thought, what if the guitar belonged to an astronaut who's never coming back? He's on the spaceship strumming, as his home planet gets smaller through the window".

Although their debut album felt like the freshest Oasis album in years, "People didn't like the first one" [I don't agree with Liam about this... the fans and even the critics liked it. It's just that he wanted it to sell more] "so we couldn't do that again" [this is ok :].

"Noel's sold over a million, ours sold over 700,000. That'll do, but it didn't sell 20 million, know what I mean?"

Noel's songs are "missing some balls". "He goes, if I gave our kid a tune with a horn section on it, he'd freak out, man. Like, you're just a lying little bastard." There is splendid brass on two tracks from BE.

A song by Liam is both provocative and conciliatory, Don't Brother Me. "It means, don't come knocking on my door when everybody's fucking found you out" - suggesting the shine may come off Noel as a frontman (in fact, he's not able to be a frontman and many of his fans already got bored, also leaving his gigs and asking for Liam, and realising about Noel telling lies).

"Noel wanted out, man, don't be fucking kidded", Liam seethes. "He always wanted to be a frontman. He loves being in the fucking spotlight, being in charge. All that crap about [simpering voice] This has been thrust upon me, let's deal with it together. Fuck off, you've been planning it for years, you cunt".

The other 3 members of Oasis stuck with you. "The proof is in the pudding, mate. I'm not a cunt, I'm a good fucking guy. I've never sacked anyone in my entire life. Noel has, on the other hand".

This no-nonsense band is properly bonded, Beady Eye are extraordinarily tightly knit. Almost exceptionally among bands - who tend to hate each other and scatter as soon as they go offstage - this lot go on holiday together (always to Como lake near Milan too). There's no longer any sense of captain and crew, "we're all in charge", says Liam. Andy and Gem talk of Liam's singing as if they're curators of some precious national treasure.

Tabloid bullshit: Liam has been ejected twice from a London pub - denied by the people working there.

Beady Eye hired Quest management's Scott Rodger (among his charges: Paul McCartney, Arcade Fire), then spent much of 2012 writing and demoing, breaking off only to play some gigs with re-formed Stone Roses, and to perform Wonderwall at the Olympics Closing Ceremony. Noel had passed on the offer (because they were not paying him, not because he was asked to mime, as he said - they knew he's not a singer). Liam, witheringly: "that tune needed to be heard, at that event, from this voice".

"The album's gonna come out, hopefully people'll like it. If not, we tour it, and try and catpure them that way. If that doesn't work, we'll go [mimes phone call] - Noel?" - Liam laughs, which says: I'll never, ever be that desperate.

Beady Eye BE, more details

MOON - I don't agree with Liam about that... the fans and even the critics liked the first album. It's just that he wanted it to sell more.

2nd review, song by song.

1. Flick of the Finger.
A dramatically urgent Beady Velvet Underground beat, blaring trumpets, fuzzy guitars and Liam proclaiming "the future gets written today". The central riff's from a 2004 Liam/Gem demo called Velvet Building because "it sounded like the Velvets and it kept building".

2. Soul Love
The anti-Wonderwall, as Liam's loved-up strum is subjected to terrifying electronics from producer Dave Sitek. Liam: "the whole song fits with the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, with the baby going to the moon. We might have to just whack it on the internet - I'm up for getting arrested, or sued".

3. Face the crowd
A terrific, gambolling riff in an odd time signature. Liam: "Andy always comes up with the fucking bangers, which is weird". Andy: "It's about the bravado of being in a band. I'm pretty reserved, but when you're onstage, you've got to own it".

4. Second bite of the apple
A bassline like Joe Jackson's "It's different for girls" amid more fab brass and un-Oasis guitar effects. "The word is up, if you're tough enough", yowls Liam. Scott Walker's "The old man's back again" (from Scott 4) was an in-studio inspiration.

5. Soon come tomorrow
"What kind of love burns holes in your heart?", wonders Liam, among worried acoustics, bewildering synths and a contrastingly hot wah-wah guitar solo. Andy: "It's pretty personal, about something that happened between me and [his wife] Shiarra".

6. Iz rite
Liam: "It's like the Beatles on ecstasy, like a George Harrison-y Hare Krishna thing. Gem wrote it - I'm not saying it's fucking girly or anything, but he's definitely in touch with his feminine side at the moment".

7. I'm just saying
Andy: "my gist to the Morning Glor fans - us doing what we do very well". Super catchy and, yes, Oasis-y, but with that value added, future-now Sitek zing.

8. Don't brother me
Liam: "It is about a brother, but I do have two - and they're both fucking idiots". Step forward eldest brother Paul Gallagher. Another Liam acoustic strum, which launches off into deepest, darkest Sitekville on hypnotic synths and a sitar-y clang.

9. Shine a light
Tremendous opening riff in the style of The Stooges circa 1969 propels this way-out-there rocker with added backwards guitar. The rhythm came from a jam over Captain Beefheart's Mirror Man. Not even remotely Dadrock.

10. Ballroom figured
First recorded with full band, but when it came to Liam to overdub his voice, producer Sitek stripped it back to just acoustic guitar. Gem: "It sounded amazing, so we kept it like that. That's production, too - taking everything off".

11. Start anew
Another acoustic track with Liam's sweetest vocal ever. Andy: "Dave coaxed this Neil Young solo out of me, and it spins into an ending that doesn't quite resolve. We never push the epic button too hard".

Beady Eye are... playful?

Not a word often flung in Liam Gallagher's direction, but the group's new single has a seductive, coy edge.

Perhaps its that opening drum beat, cribbed from Ringo Starr's off-beat less-is-more dictum. Perhaps its those horns, leading the track to new level after new level.

Or maybe it's Liam himself, with the singer's finest vocal performance in some time intoning lyrics of young love, empowerment and progress.

Rising from the demise of Oasis, Beady Eye have taken the industry by storm with their sensational debut album Different Gear Still Speeding, but the quintet look set to offer something different in their forthcoming instalment BE and this is just the appetiser.
Gallagher and co streamed album opener Flick Of The Finger, but never opted to take the single to the charts despite the huge support by the likes of Zane Lowe, Nick Grimshaw and XFM.
This is a picturesque return, as their elegant tones, Madchester influences and Gallagher’s charismatic charm warps itself into the very foundations of the track that looks. Di Canio learned from Oasis

SUNDERLAND - No he didn't learn to be a Nazi dictator from Noel Gallagher. Paolo Di Canio has a karaoke machine and Liam Gallagher to thank for his English skills. Also, he's sporting Liam's sideburns.
The Italian’s former team-mate Alan Stubbs has revealed how the Sunderland boss struggled with the language when he signed for Celtic in 1996.
But, within a year, he had mastered the lingo — after buying a karaoke machine and singing along to songs by Gallagher’s band Oasis among others.
Stubbs explained: “Paolo’s spoken English wasn’t great when he arrived at Celtic from AC Milan. It was broken and stilted and it used to frustrate him.
“Then he came in one day and said he had solved the problem — he’d bought a karaoke machine.
“He decided if he couldn’t speak English, he’d learn to sing it.
It must have helped because, by the time he left Celtic a year later, his English was excellent.
“Paolo loved his music, in particular Oasis and the Manic Street Preachers.
“He’d learn a song at home, then belt it out in the dressing room the next day — at the top of his voice. It was brilliant entertainment, especially when he’d forget the words.”

Some are so blinded by Noel they even say "Noel never said no"................
The real Oasis fans remained, are very few and are the "hardcore" ones, realising about Noel...
I even heard Noel saying he's TOO BUSY TALKING WITH HIS EX OASIS BANDMATES !!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure, in his fantasy (that he should use for writing his own songs, not copied, not taken from old session, not written with other Oasis members). Someone please help him.

Beady Eye new video

MOON - Astronauts... I clearly influenced them once again, now with my visits to the museums (piece of Moon in Milan @ Leonardo Da Vinci museum). They set it private, but I downloaded it ;) (it's the backstage of the cover shoot). 

Liam Gallagher has ditched his parka jacket on the cover of the new issue of Q out on Tuesday next week, as a sign that the band have changed their sound for the new album. 

He told the mag: “We couldn’t do that first album again. Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Lennon gear — that’s my thing. I could do that all day long but people don’t want that, so we had to do summat.”

That “summat” included drafting in producer Dave Sitek, who had the band watching "2001: A Space Odyssey" in the studio. Liam says he’s put in serious effort on the new record, admitting he cares so much about music that it could one day kill him.

He said: “I won’t die of a drug overdose or a fucking drinking habit.

“I’ll die of living and breathing and being in a band. It won’t be over snorting a line off someone’s head or drinking a daft drink. It’ll be because I’m into it too much. I’ll die of caring too much.”

Sitek also had the band burning sage leaves before recording to “ward off evil spirits”.

Liam rides crocodiles

LONDON - Saint George's day, apparently Liam got drunk (which is very rare in Britain...) and tried to ride a dog ahahaha and of course it's a negative one so it's a big news for the British tabloids for desperate housewives preparing shite food and staying at home 'cause it's raining outside.
It seems he forgot to pay a pub, but then he paid.
Of course the manager "asked not to be named"... this is proof it's another fake story, like that one of Liam drunk at the pub, denied by the people working there.
Of course the tabloids refuse comments telling the truth... says a lot about them.
Of course haters as always find the way to fill their empty day, moralizing and attacking Liam without even knowing him, but always finding the time and never missing an article.
Of course the tabloids "forgot" to report all the good things Liam has done for the dogs.
Of course they even forgot their media darling Noel Gallagher, the scaredy cat, teaching his kids to throw stuff at harmless cows (why not alligators? no balls to do it?), of course that's NOT a bad example for the kids.
Of course they even forgot to report (yes, but to the police) about the looter Noel (speding £7,000 for a night in a bar and "waking up every morning with hangovers because I'm Irish") being the only one not paying... the train ticket to Manchester some weeks ago. He must be too busy still paying royalties for copying music.
But hey, according to Noel, "looters are fucking idiots"...
They must be proud at The Sun, in the Beady Eye new album Liam named them with Noel... about lying.

Noel Gallagher said the Nazi "David Bowie could release another album" because he's got a lot of songs, and this BIG NEWS from the media darling of my ass (Bowie doesn't give a fuck about Noel), is on ALL the websites, even THE SUN (!) of course, the NME Noel Musical Express (giving him the Godlike Genius award WITHOUT people voting), etc.
Sure Noel has no albums to release, 'cause he's the laziest fuck ever seen.
The 2012 album he had announced, of course was not released.
You can see why he's still paying the most money for copying songs. Even his "solo" album was made of Oasis songs from old sessions (2001 and 2004), written with other Oasis members, as Gem said.

interview with Harri Peccinotti

LONDON - The legendary photographer of Beady Eye's new album. Harri Peccinotti from the old-school Italian: groundbreaking graphic designer, musician, purveyor of the flesh, outlaw photographer, erotic connoisseur, rule-breaker extraordinaire. Every photographer who’s made a career out of taking sensual and erotic photographs of beautiful women owes a big debt to Harri Peccinotti. He was the first person to consistently capture the sexuality of everyday activities on camera: subversively pleasing sights like girls carefully sucking on Popsicles, close-ups of butts on bike seats, and California beach bunnies unknowingly shot with long lenses. The master lensman who, in 1968, after completing an assignment in Vietnam, photographed the now legendary Milano Pirelli pinup calendar, that paired love poems with photographic interpretations of the verses. He was, of course, invited back. This time Harri proceeded to up the erotic factor by featuring the aforementioned California girls in various states of undress—all girls he met while cruising the beaches.

Do you remember the first photo you took just for fun?

I took a lot of pictures in Holland because I was interested in the painter Mondrian. I used to go to Vlissingen when I was about 18 and go to where the trees that Mondrian used to [paint]. There’s the first tree he did. So I used to take photographs around Vlissingen, just people on the street and everything.

While you trained in graphics, you also played in a brass band in London. 

I used to play trombone and tuba and string bass. After two or three years in learning graphics, I changed and spent about two or three years professionally playing music. Then I was disillusioned with it all and I didn’t ever go back. Unfortunately, I haven’t practiced much since which is really stupid. Now I regret it, of course. But there are lots of little things I regret. I wish I had gotten into movies, I wish I had bought a house. I have a lot of what-ifs, but anyway, here I am.

You designed album covers for jazz artists on Esquire Records. Who were some of the biggies?

Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and the Modern Jazz Quartet. They were all graphic things. They were not photographs at all. I got paid five pounds and you had to do all the overlays. I couldn’t go to America and photograph Miles Davis. And also, record covers at that time were drawings and things. They were not like they are now.

It must have been exciting to work in the 60s as the Sexual Revolution took flight. 

I suppose it was exciting, but maybe it’s an exciting time now. You don’t know until later, really. Even in the 60s you didn’t understand it was as exciting as it looks now. I think I [shot] the first nipple [to appear] in a calendar in 1968. That was the beginning of a sort of freedom, the idea that you didn’t have to get married, you could live with somebody. It was a real break from the 50s in England.

The “nip slip” to which you refer happened on your first Pirelli calendar shoot in Tunisia, right?

Yes, but it came naturally. I mean she didn’t have any clothes on. It’s just that I cropped somewhere where her nipple showed, that’s all. There’s a girl in a white t-shirt [in another photo], who was a friend, and through the t-shirt you see a black triangle, and they retouched it out. So it wasn’t that free even then, not for Pirelli anyway. Then, of course, a little bit later you could do complete nudes. Then it was, ‘If it hasn’t got nipples and crotches, then it’s not worth doing!’ There was no money when I did our Pirelli calendar. We didn’t have a hairdresser or a makeup artist, nothing. In America I didn’t even have models! I just used girls on the beach.

Why did you choose California as the location for the 1969 edition of the calendar?

I had been there two years before working on a film called Chappaqua and there were beautiful girls everywhere. I couldn’t believe it. When we finished the one in Tunisia I said, Oh, why don’t we go to California and just do it on the beach? So I talked them into it. Everything you ever read says the calendar was shot in Big Sur but it wasn’t. I did go to Big Sur to see William Burroughs before the shoot and I think that’s where the rumor got started. Anyway, it was shot around Los Angeles, Venice Beach mainly.

How did you find the girls?

When I was working on Chappaqua there were thousands of girls, but when we went there for the calendar there were none around because it was the school holidays. There were enough girls but quite difficult. And if you look, they’re the same ones. It’s just a little group we got to know. I bet a lot of them don’t even know they’re in the Pirelli calendar. I mean where would they ever see one? They’re just girls on the beach in ’68. You take their pictures and then you go away and they don’t even know if you were genuine or not.

Chappaqua featured a lot of members of the Beat Generation, like William Burroughs, whom you met during production. Were you part of the Beats?

Everyone was in it—Allen Ginsberg and Burroughs, Ravi Shankar, Grateful Dead. I spent six months in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hills Hotel and had nothing to do because the film came from Paris and was stopped at customs in America. It took weeks and weeks before they freed it. I used to go out with everyone and every Thursday I used to have a party in my room because I had expenses to get rid of. I was friends with people from Buddha Records so they would come and then maybe just the girl from the reception. Sometimes there were musicians.

Did you jam with anybody famous?

I played with the Mamas and the Papas. There were lots of groups all just wandering around stoned saying, ‘You’re free. Come play.’ I did recordings with the Lovin’ Spoonful, too.

You even bought photos of a woman giving birth.

They didn’t want to do it. I bought the pictures without authority and you couldn’t buy a copy. It sold out within 10 minutes! In those days it was really quite a shock to see something like that.

You were among the first to use black models in fashion photography. Why was it important to you to help break through that barrier?

If a girl is beautiful, whether she’s black or white or whatever color she may be, I don’t see any difference at all. I was completely anti racial nonsense. Several times I asked to use some model who I liked a lot, who was black, and they’d give me really bad reasons like ‘Advertisers wouldn’t advertise,’ so at Nova I used to overdo it and I got into trouble a bit. They would say, ‘Don’t you ever use white models? What are you
trying to do?’

A lot of the models were your friends, right?

Yeah, I always used friends. At that time, editorially, I would never use a male model just because I don’t like male models. I like female models.

How would you describe your style?

I don’t know that I have a style. I’m probably a bit more closeup, or I used to be. I was always thinking graphically, to fill the screen. I didn’t like loose space hovering around the edge at that time, and then I was called “Mr. Close-up.”

You encouraged women to let their hair grow in one of your photo spreads for Nova.

I took a photograph of a crotch and it’s a double -page spread. I told the editor it was an underarm, and it says ‘Keep your hair on,’ or something like that. I always said I like girls with hair under their arms. I’m from the old-school Italian.

And judging by the length of your beard, the same rules apply for men.

I just grow a beard because I don’t want to shave!

How do you make women feel so comfortable enough to pose nude?

Maybe I’m no threat. Who knows? Now I’m like their grandfather, whereas then there was some rapport between us. I don’t even realize I look 90 years old but obviously to them I could imagine I’m a sort of ogre taking their picture. A lot of the people I’ve taken pictures of I know very well. Now I don’t have a friend who’s a model. Or they’re just too old to take their clothes off!

Some years ago, you released a book, H.P., which offers a look at your work over the last several decades. What are some of your favorite images from your career?

I have a favorite fashion picture, which is not actually a fashion picture: a girl in Africa wandering along who was so elegant and beautiful. I remember taking [photographs of] birds flying. Things like that stick in my mind. I still like the pictures. They’re not great or anything but it’s something that gave me incredible pleasure at the time.

What always shines through in your photos is that you love women.

I don’t necessarily make them look beautiful, which is something else. I’m not very good at that. I can make them look as they are. I don’t have a skill for making them look really beautiful.

Is there anybody you want to shoot that you haven’t?

I think Kate Moss is great but I’ve never taken her picture. There’s something about her that looks natural all the time, which I quite like. I like models that don’t look too much like models. She does, but she doesn’t. And I’m sure it doesn’t matter how you take her picture, she’s going to look great. You don’t need to be a wizard.

What’s next for you?

I think it’s just going to roll on. I have thousands of transparencies I haven’t sorted through that I’ll try to.

Pretty Green in Reading

READING - An alternative to the current ‘college boy’ look and a bit of attitude is coming to The Oracle this weekend. 

That is the promise from Pretty Green’s brand director Nigel Grant, who says the store is aiming to offer something a bit more edgy in men’s fashion.
The East Reading-born boss says he is genuinely thrilled to be opening a store in his home town where the company, founded by former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher, first set up its headquarters and still has its distribution centre.
He said: “It feels good to be in Reading. There was always going to be two phases to our UK store roll-out and Reading was always going to be part of the second phase. I’ve grown up with The Oracle and it’s a great location.”
This will be the 13th Pretty Green UK store and three more are due to open in the next three months, in contrast to other retailers who are closing branches.
Mr Grant said: “I believe there’s two things important to me as brand director.
“Firstly, the high street is still the best place to show the customer what your brand is all about.
“You can get a feel and a vibe, it’s not just about the brand and clothing but what the attitude is about.
“Secondly, I think people want to touch and feel clothing. The high street is having a tough time and it may be in the next five or 10 years there is radical change to the way people actually interact with the brand on the high street and buy online but one thing is for sure, people will always want to feel the garment and try it before they actually buy it.”
The new store is almost opposite the hugely popular Hollister but Mr Grant says Pretty Green will offer something quite different.
The 47-year-old said: “We just try and create a cool vibe and a little bit of attitude and a lot of rock and roll.
“With dark wood panelling and a leopard print wall, it’s the kind of thing you see in a rock star’s house.”
Mr Grant continued: “There’s a lot of brands where I can’t tell them apart, they’ve morphed into one. It’s that college kid look.
“We are one of the few brands that caters for a wide age demographic. If you’ve got attitude and want to look cool and not like everyone else in the street we’re a good option.
“People over 40 or over 50 come in and carry it off. There’s something in our store which will resonate with everyone who has lived through the 90s but we do have an awful lot of teenagers now as well. That’s one thing that has excited us.”

Mr Grant says Liam, who has a home in Henley, prefers to keep a low profile at store openings but is likely to check out the Reading branch soon. He said: “He is very hands on. He has sign-off on pretty much everything we do. He is going to the Manchester City-Reading game so he might shimmy past.”
Mr Grant has been director of Pretty Green since it was formed in 2009 and has seen the business grow to 250 employees in the UK with 50 of them working in the warehouse in East Reading.
He said: “I’m proud to say we are a big employer in the local area and long may it continue.”
Pretty Green is set to open in The Oracle on Saturday with live performances from bands including Chinawhite from Warrington.

ACCRINGTON - A teenage musician became a ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll Star’ after he performed an impromptu gig with his idol - Liam Gallagher.
The former Oasis frontman has spent time in the Accrington area this week, shooting a video with his band Beady Eye.
Keen guitarist and singer Reece Bibby, 14, heard that one of the locations used by the band was the Canine Club on Abbey Street.
He was in such a hurry to meet the star that he grabbed his guitar, but not his coat, when he left his home on Marlborough Road.
He said: “I love Oasis and Beady Eye so had been waiting for a couple of hours outside the club. I only had a t-shirt on and had started shivering.
“A woman who was with her daughter wrapped me in a pink blanket from her car and took a picture which the band must have seen, because a couple of minutes later someone came out and said Liam wanted to see me.
“I was shown inside and taken upstairs to the group’s dressing room.
“Liam hugged me and asked me why I wasn’t wearing a coat. He then saw my guitar and said ‘do you know any Oasis songs?’.”
It was then that Reece became the envy of thousands of musicians worldwide, performing perhaps Liam’s best-known song with the man himself.
“I started strumming the opening chords of Wonderwall,” he said. “My hands were freezing and shaking but I know the chords well. I couldn’t believe it when he started singing the opening line. I got goosebumps.
“He sang the verses and I joined in the choruses. It was amazing.”
Liam then signed Reece’s acoustic guitar and handed him his pair of Mosley Tribe designer sunglasses.
Reece said: “He told me to believe in myself and that as a musician I should listen to the sounds all around me. It was just surreal.”
With that, Reece, a Hollins Technology College pupil returned home to dad Jamie, 35, mum Lyndsey, 32 and 13-year-old sister Lexie.
Reece performs a mixture of his own songs and cover versions and will be playing at the Victoria pub, Accrington on May 4.

Beady Eye new video shoot

ACCRINGTON - He's just announced his band Beady Eye will be taking an “experimental” new direction for their second album, but Liam Gallagher returned to very traditional roots to shoot his new video.
For Liam chose old-fashioned boozer the Dog and Partridge in Accrington (Haslingden, Lancashire) to film the video with his bandmates – to the surprise of residents there. The band chose it for its traditional looks, both outside and in.
Burnage boy Liam announced yesterday that Beady Eye’s new album will be called BE, and will see the rockers experiment with cassette tapes, iPhone apps and samplers for a fresh new sound.
And they certainly wasted no time in heading up here to film a video for what is likely to be the first new song off the album, Flick of the Finger [it's the second single Second bite of the apple].
Needless to say, the presence of the famous rocker caused something of a stir in the village of Baxenden when they set up filming at the pub. Schoolgirls Amy and Molly Brennan and friend Holly Kenyon spotted the film crew outside the pub and with dad Ian they decided to investigate.
Ian said: “I asked them what it was all about and they didn’t want to say anything at first but then they told us it was Liam Gallagher.
“As we walked back up the road he came out, it was quite surreal seeing him at our local boozer. The girls were quite scared when I went to talk to him but he was nice as pie.
“I asked him for photos with the girls and he was chatting to them telling them his mum was a dinner lady and asking if they were off school.
“People always say he’s mad but he was really sound.”
Ian added the girls – Amy, 14, Holly, 13 and Molly, 10, had heard of the former Oasis legend but admitted they were more One Direction fans.
He said: “As soon as they got home they were watching Liam and the band online, it was exciting for them, I think they’re fans now.”
After word got out of Gallagher’s appearance people flocked to the pub to catch a glimpse of the rocker.
Earlier in the day our beady eyed moles spotted Liam at Piccadilly train station where he arrived with bandmates for the long day of filming ahead.
Can’t wait to see the results!

Liam said: “It’s great be up here, it’s a beautiful little place. The weather’s been good too. We’ve all had a top time, you can’t beat a traditional little boozer.”
Licensee Fiona Heap said: “A location scout came in last Friday and asked us if it would be ok for them to film for a few hours.
“I think they were after the looks of a traditional local and they were particularly taken with the pool room.
We were only too glad to help.
“Liam was very friendly and was fantastic with the fans outside. All the band seemed to be having a good time.”
Delighted fans said that Beady Eye’s visit had been memorable.
Darcey Powell said: “I got a picture with Liam and he was really nice. “I had a dentist’s appointment but I sacked it off to meet Liam. There wasn’t really an option.”
Amelia Cardwell said: “I heard on Facebook that the band were here and came down with my mum.
“I can’t believe he’s shooting a video right on my doorstep. It’s really exciting.”

Beady Eye psychedelic futurists

LONDON - ShortList’s Hamish MacBain discovers how “the maddest bastard in thick-rimmed glasses since my grandma” turned Liam Gallagher and Beady Eye from Sixties fetishists into psychedelic futurists (Futurism from Milan ;)

As ever, there are many things about which Liam Gallagher is currently “buzzing”. There’s his son Gene’s continued prowess on the drums (he’s now in a band), and the fact he was last month given a set of sticks by Reni from The Stone Roses. There’s today’s “mega” photoshoot. There’s Beady Eye’s new bassist Jay Mehler – formerly of Kasabian, absent with chicken pox – whose arrival he declares to be “like Van Persie going to United”.
There’s Suede’s latest single (“Fucking tune… I bumped into Brett at my kid’s school. I don’t mind him, he used to have a pop at me and I used to pop back but you get older: at least I’m not cuddling Damon Albarn and doing fucking gigs with him”) [I like Suede too - Noel of course hates them]. There’s – still, always – The Stone Roses, who he saw in Dubai a few weeks ago. And while he’s not buzzing about Palma Violets – “I saw a picture, the guy was wearing a weird shirt” – he is all over Justin Bieber.
“Anyone who goes on two hours late is fucking right in my book, man,” he raves, as the shoot is finishing up. “All these so-called rock bands that sit backstage going, ‘Hey, let’s wait 15 minutes.’ Fuck that, wait two hours and 15 minutes! He’s kicked the fucking arse out of it – no one will beat that, ever. So get off his fucking back, man: I am a Belieber!”
More so than any of these things, though, Liam and the rest of Beady Eye – equally enthused-by-life guitarists Gem Archer and Andy Bell, quiet drummer Chris Sharrock – are today excited about their new tune Flick Of The Finger which, if the world hasn’t ended, will go live a few days after you read this. Deriving from an old Liam demo of a song called Velvet Building – “It was on cassette, that’s how long ago it was,” says Gem – it was briefly mooted for the aborted, Death In Vegas-produced Oasis album in 2004, but has now been completely reinvented and retitled, with new words by Andy and Gem, a bombastic brass section and… well, let’s hand over to its creators, shall we?

Andy: “We’re gonna have to start the gigs with it. Got to. It’s a calling card.”

Liam: “It’s stomping, in-yer-face. It’s just mental. To me, it’s like a tsunami just waiting to fucking come at you, and then it gets you.”

Gem: “It’s like Bruce Lee, on a surfboard, in a tsunami…”

Chris: “…with brass. Burning sage.”

And when you do hear it, and wonder who and what the ranted spoken word bit is all about, then here’s the sketch: it’s taken from Tariq Ali’s book Street Fighting Years: An Autobiography Of The Sixties, with the words – “whose weapons rapidly developed by servile scientists will become more deadly until they can, with a flick of the finger, tear a million of you to pieces” – originally those of 18th-century French political theorist and “friend of the people” Jean-Paul Marat.
Except that now they’re spoken by Fonejacker.

Gem: “We needed to re-record it anyway, and Kayvan [Novak, the show’s creator] came on board to do it. I just love that it’s this heavy, heavy piece of wordage, but delivered by Fonejacker.”

Liam: “So that’s the only guest appearance on the album – Fonejacker. And the first thing that people will hear of our new stuff is his voice: ‘Say what you believe.’ So he’s lucked out there, the little fucker!”

A TOUGH START

Gem: “Situation and circumstance, man. People were saying we’d never make the end of the tour. We were like, ‘We fucking will!’”

By December 2011, Beady Eye had made it to the end. But they knew it was time to regroup. They would not play live again until June 2012, and even then it was just a handful of support slots with The Stone Roses. Still, at these shows they appeared revitalised: partly due to the rest, partly due to new management, partly because they had relented slightly on their decision to not play Oasis songs, with the crowd at Heaton Park treated to Rock’N’Roll Star and Morning Glory: songs written by Noel Gallagher (not completely) but – as they say in showbiz – made famous by Liam Gallagher.

“The way I see it, it’s about giving people value for money,” he says. “It’s hard times out there, and if people want to hear a couple of fucking tunes, is it doing any cunt any harm? We’re not doing it to get into arenas and we’re not doing it to get out of shitholes. And, y’know: if people don’t want to hear them then… we’ll still do them!”

Andy: “We were definitely pretty up at that point. By then, we had about 12 new songs ready, too. We could have gone in the studio then, but we thought, ‘Let’s get a few more tunes written.’”

Liam: “We knew the next album had to be flipped on its head. We didn’t know how to do it, we didn’t know where to start by doing it, so at that point all we felt we had to do was write some good tunes. But we just needed a bit of fucking help. The last record, the producer weren’t right, he bailed, Gem ended up mixing it and it turned out great for what it was. But we needed a great producer.”

Enter a man described by Liam as “the maddest bastard in thick-rimmed glasses since my grandma”. As well as being the main architect behind the adventurous, some-might-say-wilfully-difficult sounds of his own band TV On The Radio, Dave Sitek is feted for his innovative, forward-thinking production on albums by Brooklyn, New York’s avant-garde elite (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Liars), and his free-jazz influenced remixes. He once made a space-rock album of Tom Waits covers with Scarlett Johansson. So perhaps not a producer you would expect to be working with a band whose last album contained a song called Beatles & Stones, that sounded quite like The Who and The Kinks.

Andy: “People will talk about him being from one world and us being from a different world, but actually we’re pretty similar. We agreed on a lot of stuff musically: the stuff we liked, stuff we were playing in the room, for fun.”

Gem: “Initially he was like, ‘Why do they want me?’ But we sent him some tunes and he went, ‘Oh, I get it: they want to go there.’ And he wanted to make some rock’n’roll, as he put it. So it was a leap of faith that worked.”

Liam: “I love him: he’s an outlaw. He definitely didn’t come over to London to see the Queen, know what I mean? He came to make a good record. When people mention ‘experimenting’, the thing about that word, it makes it sound like they’re really fucking trying hard. But we didn’t really try that hard, man. We just laid it on the line. He was like, ‘I’m not here to make demos sound better, I’m here to fucking toss it up in the air and see what happens.’ And he did, but that’s as far as experimenting went. We weren’t sitting there going ‘Right, we need to do more of this kind of thing’ or whatever, because I find all that shit fucking hard work.”

BE : HERE NOW

Whatever the process, the results, anyone would concede, are very different-sounding. The songs are still swaggering and direct, but now there are many layers of colour, with tunes taking unexpected twists at every other turn. And Liam’s voice is a revelation: mixed dry, with barely any effects on it, so you feel he’s right up against your forehead. “It’s how I sound round the house or on the back of a camel or whatever,” he says. “I’m sick of idiots saying I can’t sing. Hopefully now they’ll get off my back.”
With the first time Liam and Sitek laid eyes on each other being Day One at State Of The Ark Studios in Richmond, it is a marriage that was helped, too, by the fact both parties were barely aware of each other’s legacies. There was not the reverence a British producer might have for four-fifths of Oasis.

Liam: “It weren’t all fucking rosey, that’s for sure. We had a couple of ding dongs, definitely. Not fisticuffs, but there was a lot of…”

Andy: “…push and pull. We pushed him and he pushed us.”

So was there material you brought in and he went, ‘No thanks’?

Liam: “Yeah, without a doubt. And you know how that goes down. He’d be, ‘I’m not having that’, and I’d be going, [aggressively], ‘Well, I fucking am.’ So there’d be a bit of bullfighting going on. And then he’d go off and conduct ‘a musical experiment’ and you’d be like, ‘Hmm, that don’t sound too bad at all, actually. I can go with that.’ And there were others where we were like, ‘You’re losing your mind, we need to get back to Hare Krishna land.’”

Andy: “Sometimes we won, sometimes he won. But the best person won each time for the tune.”

Liam: [Adopts comedy posh voice] “Guys, the record won. Music won!”

The record, by the way, is called "Be". Liam wanted to call it Universal Gleam, but was vetoed by “certain people” (Chris). He concedes that you could have “gone into a right old coked-up bullshit waffle about that, but with this you can’t really speak much about it. It just is.”

He adds, “My theory is that it’s gonna have Be on the cover, and then on the back I-E-B-E-R. [Stands up, shouts football chant-style] Biiiiieee-ber! I’ve got his fucking back, man.”

Why are you going on about Justin Bieber so much today?

Liam: “I don’t fucking know, do I? It’s better than going on about The Strypes, or any of them other fuckers, innit?”

FAMILY TIES

At the right of this page, there will be more details about specific songs on Be, but one warrants a slightly lengthier discussion: a spaced-out, electric sitar-assisted Liam ballad you might first hear as Don’t Bother Me, but it’s actually entitled Don’t Brother Me.
So then, Liam: why would you go and call a song Don’t Brother Me?

Liam: “Well, it just sounds shit, Don’t Sister Me, doesn’t it? Especially when I haven’t got a sister.”

You must know that it makes it pretty clear who it’s about, and that people will pick up on it.

Liam: “Yeah, yeah, people will pick up on it, but I’m ready to go there. So yeah: it’s about Our Kid.“

You’re prepared for the fact you’re now going to continue to be asked about Noel for the next year and a bit of your life?

Liam: “But the tune is the tune, I love the tune more than I love having to go and speak about it. I could’ve tried to call it to something else, but that’s what it is. [Sings] ‘Don’t brooo-ther meeee.’ And that is it. It’s a lovely fucking song. I love the song. I’m not gonna change the title to make my life easier.”

Some of the lines in it – ‘Come on now, give peace a chance’; ‘In the morning, I’ll be calling, hoping that you’ll understand’ – suggest it might be an olive branch?

Liam: “Well, as Andy said to me, it’s a bit contradictory. There’s a load of love in there, and a load of fucking…”

One verse goes: “I’m sick of all your lying/Scheming and your crying.”

Liam: “Yeah, but the lying and the scheming and the crying might not be about him. It might be about someone around him. Or it might be about me. He might be sick of my scheming, lying and crying. But anyway, there’s a lot of love in there, but there’s also a couple of – humorous, I think – digs. There’s nothing malicious in there, ’cos it’s not in my nature. I wish I could write a malicious one – you’d fucking know about it if I could – but I couldn’t.”

What do you mean you couldn’t?

Liam: “Ahh, I’m joking, man. But I couldn’t. And You, You Cunt sounds shit, doesn’t it? Plus he’s heard that one before. Everyone’s heard that before.”

Gem interjects: “Life isn’t black and white, is it? It’s many shades of grey.”

Liam: “The best line for me is ‘Did you shoot your gun?’”

Why?

“I just think it’s cool. He’s always on about shooting guns, isn’t he? If I Had A Gun... Well, did you fucking shoot it?”

Gem: “See, I never even got that. So that’s the point of it all, isn’t it?”

Liam: “And there’s ‘You’re always in the sun/With your Number One.’ The Sun newspaper… There’s loads of little things going down in there!”

You bumped into Noel after you played the Olympics, didn’t you?

Liam: “I did, yeah. Well, he bumped into me.”

How was it?

Liam: “It was all right. I wasn’t that pissed actually, I’d only had like… four bottles of champagne.”

Gem: “I knew that was coming.”

Liam: “I thought I was pretty pleasant, you know what I mean? I said, ‘What do you make of that then, you fucker?’ And he went, ‘Uh, yeah, it was all right.’ Then I said, ‘I seen your mates there, they said to say hello,’ and he went ‘Who?’ and I said, ‘Take That,’ and he went, ‘Urggh.’ That was it, and I turned me back and had a drink and then everyone was going, ‘Here y’are: speak to him,’ and I said, ‘Nope, I’m fucking having a drink,’ and that was it.”

But you’re saying it was relatively cool?

Liam: “Well, it wasn’t Jerry Springer or Jeremy Kyle. It was more Montell.”

You mean as in Montell is a bit less scratching-each-other’s-eyes-out…

Liam: “Montell is cool as fuck. At least he knows what he’s talking about. D’you know what I mean? You can’t have one chav telling another chav to wind his neck in, can you? Montell’s a fucking dude: he’s been there, seen it. And he wears fucking polo necks in front of a live studio audience.”

This seems as good point as any to leave “the Noel bit”, doesn’t it?

EYEING THE FUTURE

As we finish, Beady Eye collectively move straight into looking at video treatments, sat round a table, getting excited again. Gem shows me the artwork for the record on his phone – from a shoot for Seventies magazine Nova that he rightly says “won’t get into Tesco”.

Andy talks about how new bands such as The Strypes and Temples, ironically, will now sound retro next to his band’s new album, but even though Beady Eye’s second is an adventurous step into more leftfield territory, he’ll still “be gutted if it doesn’t go to No1”. Liam talks about “some interesting gigs” that they have coming up. There are ideas everywhere, and the definite sense of a band refreshed and reinvigorated, looking forward.

Beady Eye needed to roll the dice, and they have. It looks like it might just pay off.

Juventus, 4 pere Bayern

TURIN - I follow you stronzo, lol. A couple of weeks ago an old mad woman fan of AC Milan, angry with a poor boy fan of Juventus on Tv, for talking shit (according to her), wished them to "get 4 pears" (Italian slang) from Bayern Munich, ending with "asshole!!!!!" ahahahaha 

And then it was 2-0 and 0-2... incredible. She must be a witch.
Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona had difficulties, seems like Bayern could finally win the Champions League.

Beady Eye new album: "BE" on 10 June +TRACKLIST

LONDON - It's called "BE" the new record released on June 10 (5 June in Japan, some shops might have it on 7, but you could find it on 11, of course a bit later for some countries). The new single "Kill Switch" on 15 April on the official website (while Flick of the Finger was the teaser).

Oasis fans want a proper band like this, with its own members (4/5 of Oasis+1 Kasabian), not whoever is in the room at the moment, as Noel Gallagher's Turds, "disbanded last November" (who the fuck were they?)

Liam Gallagher, once known for his frequent drug intake [yeah of course, known for the drugs only], has revealed his band's new album was written with a "clear head".
The singer, formerly frontman with Oasis, suggested he had moved on from his excesses and said his group Beady Eye had a "new-found focus".
He and the group have even used iPhone apps (he bought it a couple of years ago when I gave him my number ;) to work on some of the tracks for their second album BE.
Liam said: "We had a new-found focus when we were writing it - we really got our heads down and got our shit together - clear heads, none of that crap and nonsense from the 90s."
"It feels like a really special record for us," added the frontman, who has also taken up running in recent years.

"It’s a trippy record!" Dave Sitek adds. "The strength of the tracks is so high that we got to really play around! It’s rock band instrumentation, but used in a different way. Liam’s vocals are incredible, all you have to do is turn on a microphone and you’re like, ‘That sounds like a record!’ You don’t have to do anything to them."

It's "funny" how some sites wrote "mixed response", "mixed reactions" as big title on their articles, and then they give a few random comments as proof, plus add bullshit about the media darling Noel, and also forgetting that the first Beady Eye album received good reviews. I've read about a 1000 comments around and a good 95% loved the new track (5% are jealous Noel's fans). They need to have at least a 50% to say "mixed feelings". Once again, proof that the media is not informing, trying to tear to pieces a really good song.
